ATHENA Award Recipient
The Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry and The Council for Working Women are excited to announce Diane Habiger as the 2016 recipient of The ATHENA Award. Diane becomes the 29th Award recipient, and will be honored at a luncheon on Wednesday, September 14th at Mistwood Golf Club.
The ATHENA Award Program was developed in 1982 to honor exceptional female or male leaders who demonstrate the highest levels of professional excellence, give back to their communities, and most importantly, actively assist women in realizing their full leadership potential.
Diane is the co-owner of Lincolnshire Properties, which leases apartments in Plainfield and conventional office space in Joliet, Plainfield and Naperville. Diane and her husband, Bill, also own Lincolnshire Business Center in Joliet. The original center was totally destroyed by fire in 2001, but since has been rebuilt. It is an executive suite providing receptionist and secretarial services, faxing, photocopying, conference rooms and other support services as part of the rental. LBC also offers a virtual tenant program which supports home based businesses in projecting a professional image at an affordable cost.
As a true community leader, Diane has been instrumental to the advancement of women in the Joliet region. She has been a driving force in the recruitment of women into the Rotary Club of Joliet, the Joliet Catholic Academy Board of Directors, and Board of Trustees at the University of St. Francis. Diane assisted on a committee appointed by a Supreme Court Justice that resulted in the appointment of two female candidates, often assists women that have been out of the workforce with their resume and letters of recommendation, and has urged many to participate in the Community Leadership School sponsored by the Chamber.
Diane, based on her own experience, knows that many women need encouragement when returning to the workforce after an absence due to child rearing and other factors. “Women need to believe in themselves and their capabilities,” says Habiger. Diane found that encouragement from being part of the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce. Working on various committees at the Chamber and becoming active in the planning of Community Leadership School put her in the company of local leaders who became role models and encouraged community service. Diane stated that the Joliet Chamber certainly changed the direction of her life. It gave her the opportunity to learn how to contribute and become active in various educational and social causes.
Additional Community and Chamber involvement includes:
- De La Salle Founders Award from Lewis University, 2016
- Marx Gibson Community Leadership Award, 2000
- Outstanding Business Alumna from Joliet Catholic Academy, 2001
- Outstanding Small Business Award from Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry, 2001
- Board of Trustees at the University of St. Francis
- Board of Directors at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home
- Board of Directors at Joliet Catholic Academy
- Board of Directors at Joliet Rotary Club
- Board of Directors at the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry
Diane fully embodies the spirit of the ATHENA Award and is a tremendous asset to her community. She has paved the way for other women to follow in her footsteps and realize their full potential.

Governor Rauner has vetoed three bills that we have opposed that would have
dictated who must serve on local economic development boards throughout the state.
SB 2531, SB 2600, and SB 2604 would have forced local economic development corporations (including Chamber of Commerce's) in Illinois to add four new board members - free of charge. Allowing Springfield to dictate who must serve on local economic development boards was not a favorable proposal. We will continue to monitor any veto attempts.
The Illinois Supreme Court officially ruled the Independent Maps initiative unconstitutional. In a 4-3 split decision, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled against the roughly 563,000 citizens who signed petitions to place the amendment on the ballot.
