28th ATHENA Award Recipient – Tricia L. Simpson

The Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry and The Council for Working Women are proud to announce Tricia L. Simpson as the 2015 recipient of The ATHENA Award. Tricia becomes the 28th Award recipient, and will be honored at a luncheon on Wednesday, September 9th at Harrah’s Joliet Casino & Hotel.

Tricia L. Simpson is the Midwest Public & Government Affairs Manager for Exxon Mobil Corporation located in Channahon, IL. As a leader in the community Tricia has been awarded multiple awards including Exxon Mobil’s Award of Excellence in Responsible Care in 1999 and 2003 for Risk Management Program, Fluor Corporation’s Tappan Award for Business Excellence for Hanford Project in 1996, and Joliet Township High School’s Superintendent Award in 2014.

Tricia has also played a leading role for many organizations such as the President of the Rialto Square Theater Foundation, President of the Channahon Economic Development Corporation, Vice-President and 2014 Gala Co-Chair for Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center Foundation, Board Member for the Community Foundation of Will County and Joliet Junior College Foundation, and Board Member of the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Tricia’s Community and Chamber involvement includes:

Tricia hopes that her overall contribution to the advancement of women will be to decimate the gender barrier in the workforce, and that gender will not be a factor in anyone’s advancement.

The Chamber membership committee has kicked-off its annual drive which will run through the end of September. We will be conducting in a little different manner this year as compared to the past years. We have identified all of our current members in the City of Joliet through GIS mapping and will be recruiting small teams of 2 or 3 individuals to visit businesses that are non-members in certain geographic areas. The Joliet Chamber will host a Business-to-Business EXPO / Job Fair on Wednesday, October 14th, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at 113 Republic Hall, located at 113 Republic Avenue, Joliet. This event will will be in place of Business Doing Business After Hours. We have changed the format and the location, while offering the same great low price for a vendor table. The Chicagoland Safety, Health, and Environmental Conference,, is being held September 21-24, 2015, at the Naperville campus of Northern Illinois University. This is a premier regional training conference that in 2014 drew more than 1,000 session attendees, speakers, and vendors from 13 states and 2 foreign countries. The conference provides education and training on current issues for manufacturing companies and professionals who have HR, safety, health, training, environmental or preparedness responsibilities and those who wish to advance their professional development. Business owners, supervisors, municipalities, school boards, park districts, medical facilities and others will also benefit by attending this professional training conference.

The Chicagoland Safety, Health and Environmental Conference includes dynamic training workshops; knowledgeable, proven speakers; a Business Expo featuring great products and services and a Networking Social.

The Joliet Ski Club has been providing affordable and fun ski trips and social activities since 1970! Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month, 7:00 p.m., at the Knights of Columbus on Infantry Drive in Joliet.

The Joliet Ski Club will be hosting a "meet and greet" event on Thursday, September 17th, during the general meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus. They will be highlighting their trips and activities; gearing up for the upcoming season. Trips will be open for sign-up and membership applications will be available. MOVE Event on Saturday, September 19th, 7:00 p.m. at the Rialto Square Theatre. (The Sprint Cup Race will be held at Chicagoland Speedway the following day). Joliet Junior Woman's Club "Witches Ball". Join us as we partner with Witches Night Out to bring you an additional night to celebrate Halloween Season! ComEd, Nicor Gas, Peoples Gas, and North Shore Gas will be hosting the 2015 Energy Efficiency Expo on September 16, 2015. The Expo is from 7a.m. – 4p.m., at the Donald E.
