Advocacy Update

Safe Roads Amendment

This Election Day, one of the most important items on the ballot asks if the Illinois Constitution should be amended to require all transportation-related revenue to be dedicated solely to public highways, roads, streets, bridges, and mass transit.

Did you know that Illinoisans travel over 103 billion miles a year on America’s third longest inventory of roads? All this wear and tear has taken its toll as potholes multiply, transit delays increase, and old deteriorating bridges put our safety at risk. Transportation drives Illinois’ economy, moving goods and people across the state and connecting us to national and international markets.

A strong infrastructure contributes to the overall wellbeing of our state’s economy. It’s time we protect these vital resources and VOTE YES to keep our roads and bridges safe.

On November 8th, this amendment will protect our investment in our infrastructure by ending the ability to divert these funds. The Safe Roads Amendment has broad support from the business community, organized labor and the trucking industry.  The Safe Roads Amendment is an important safeguard that promotes the safety of Illinois motorists. We urge you to consider the amendment carefully and vote “yes.”

Thank you to those who joined us on Tuesday, October 18 at the Clarion in Joliet for our 2016 Candidate Forum. We were able to hear from 28 candidates for Federal, State, and County offices. Please remember to VOTE on Tuesday, November 8!
