Advocacy Update

January brought more talk of budget negotiations, but unfortunately the State of Illinois continues to operate without a budget in place.

The Senate has moved forward on Term Limits for leadership positions. SR3 Provides that no Senator may be elected to each of the following offices for more then 5 General Assemblies: President of the Senate and Senate Minority Leader.

Our Legislative Committee will continue to monitor legislation covering Workers' Comp, Income Tax, Service Tax, Gaming, Property Tax, Pensions, Minimum Wage, and other areas that relate to enhancement of the business environment and the local quality of life as our mission statement reads.

We look forward to hearing from local Senators and Representatives at our February luncheon as they will address 4 of the topics mentioned above.

Web Site

We are undergoing a total re-design of our Chamber web site over the next two months. Our focus is on a much clearer design that highlights specific programs and information that is most sought out by our site users.

Also, we have expanded our social media footprint. We have added recently an Instagram account, Snap Chat account, and are re-introducing our Facebook page! These are in addition to our original Facebook account, Twitter account, You Tube channel, and LinkedIn group. A number of ways to connect with us now exist.

Membership Drive

The Chamber will be conducting a special Membership Drive beginning on Tuesday, February 14 and concluding on Thursday, February 16.  “The goal of the Membership Drive is to not only increase the number of Chamber Members, but to fully educate them and the numerous volunteers that will work on the campaign to understand the role of the Chamber,” stated Chamber President Mary Jaworski.

Seventeen women and men will be leading a total of ten teams into “battle” over the three days, each bringing with them five captains and twenty plus callers to recruit businesses and organizations that are currently not active Chamber Members.  “It will be a daunting task, but we have a tremendous base of volunteers that will be stepping up for this challenge,” said Chamber Account Executive Danielle Blake.  The Membership Drive goal is to reach 222 new members and eclipse the previous record of members gained over a three day period in 2007.

Along with the 200 plus anticipated volunteers, Membership 180, a Membership Development company has been enlisted to bring their experience in recruiting, engaging and retaining new members to Joliet.

The Membership 180 team has been working with the Chamber staff, Board of Directors, and the dedicated volunteers to prepare them for the work ahead. The Chamber is open to accepting those who may be interested in becoming a volunteer in this effort. For more information on how you can get involved in the campaign and help support the growth of business in the Joliet Region, please contact Danielle Blake at the Chamber office by calling 815.727.5371 or emailing dblake@jolietchamber.com.
